Alumni/Visitor Services: Overview

Alumni Services

The Clark Family Library is pleased to offer the following services to alumni of Washington & Jefferson College.

ALUMNI BORROWING

  • You must come to the library to receive a free alumni card. 
  • Materials for checkout include books, CDs, and plays.
  • Current and bound periodicals are available for in-house use only.
  • Alumni are welcome to visit The Learned T. Bulman '48 Archives & Museum 

HOURS

The hours for public use are Monday-Thursday 8 AM to 9 PM and Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.

*Hours may change during breaks and intersession. 

RESEARCH SERVICES

  • Alumni may make use of the research services provided by the library's staff.
  • The Ask-a-Librarian link provides online access to reference services.

COMPUTERS/PRINTING

  • Alumni and Retired Faculty & Staff may be given computer access. 
  • Printing is 10 cents per page. 50 cents per page for color.

REMOTE ACCESS

  • Remote access to the Clark Family Library Digital Archives is available.
  • Other library databases are available for research, but can only be accessed in the library with the assistance of a staff person.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Only available to current faculty, staff, and students. 

User Services at a glance

User services policies are designed to ensure that materials are returned on time and in good condition for use by as many people as possible.

  • Present your library card with the items you wish to borrow.
  • Borrowed items must be returned by the date stamped on each item's date due slip.
  • You are responsible for any fines or replacement charges incurred on your card.

Policy at a glance:

  • Book loan period is 3 weeks.
  • Periodicals & Newspapers do not circulate.

RENEWING MATERIALS

Renewals are permitted for items that do not have a hold or recall placed on them.

Materials may be renewed at the User Services Desk in person or by calling 724-223-6070

Community Borrowers and Members of the Public

COMMUNITY USER BORROWING

In order to have borrowing privileges, you must come to the Library to receive a free community user card. 

Community Borrowers must:

  1. Be a resident of Washington County
  2. Provide a photo ID with current address on it, or a photo ID along with a current utility bill with Washington County address on it

Community Borrowers under 18 years old:

  1. Must have parent/guardian present during application
  2. Parent or guardian must sign the library card along with the applicant while both are present in the library
  3. Parent or guardian must provide proof of residence in Washington County as stated above

  • Community Users may make use of the research services provided by the library's staff. 
  • The Ask-a-Librarian link provides access to reference services.

COMPUTERS/PRINTING

  • Priority for use of the Clark Family Library computers is given to W&J Students, Faculty, and Staff.
  • Community Users may use one of the computers designated for public use with a 30 minute limit per day, unless otherwise directed by staff.
  •  Printing is available for 10 cents per page. Color is 50 cents per page.

  • Remote access to the Clark Family Library Digital Archives is available.
  • Other library databases are available for research, but can only be accessed in the library with the assistance of a staff person.
