General Primary Source Digitized Resources

Use a catalog to identify primary sources

To find primary sources in one of these catalogs, use a combination of a keyword or phrase with keywords that will identify primary documents.  Some helpful keywords/subject headings to use:

diaries correspondence letters
sources documents sermons
personal narratives interviews speeches
transcripts early works to 1800  

Use the links at the top of the page under ILL to request a book or an article.

Copyright and Fair Use

There's no one right answer as to what constitutes a fair use of a particular copyrighted work. The answer varies from situation to situation.  

Four factors are considered in all fair use evaluations. They are:

  • Purpose & character
  • Nature of the work
  • Amount
  • Effect
